Antonín Dvořák Sheet Music

Antonín Dvořák

Romantic

The national heritage was a source of inspiration for composers from many countries who creatively revised folk tunes and exposed their country’s cultural heritage not only for foreigners but for compatriots as well, who for various reasons were unaware of their homeland’s folklore. “The Mighty Handful”, a creative fraternity of Russian composers united such enthusiasts and in other countries composers more often worked of their own accord. Czechia was one of the countries where composers like Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček, Antonín Dvořák and others dedicated themselves to such creative work. Undoubtedly, Antonín Dvořák’s role in making Czechia a special place on the European musical map is very considerable. He didn’t spend his entire life in his home land: for instance, he wrote his most favourite symphony “From the New Wold”  in America, but eventually nostalgia brought him back home.  Dvořák was the first Czech composer who wrote an oratorio. His concerto for cello and orchestra is among the works in which a soloist can exhibit his skills in the best way possible, and it is no wonder that Mstislav Rostropovich got interested in it once and his performance was acknowledged as model. Interestingly enough, this concerto might have never seen the light: for a long time the composer didn’t think of the cello as a solo instrument. Presently the sheet music of the concerto and other Dvořák’s masterpieces can be easily found in our collection, the total number of works amounts to 1347 and 97 of them you can download free of charge.
