Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Sheet Music

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

Romantic

Born in Germany into a Jewish family Felix Medelssohn-Bartholdy was more popular in England than in his home country; his music was accepted and unconditionally and rated very highly in the kingdom. This was the evident reason why Mendelssohn suave and refined by nature and not accustomed to tolerate resistance, frequented London where he felt at ease. In other cities he wasn’t that comfortable and welcome to compose; as a result he had to quit his position in Berlin after his reformist activities were met with a rebuff and staging of his fifth symphony was rejected in Paris. Eventually, the symphony was premiered, but for a time the composer prohibited publishing of its score. Whether it was Mendelssohn’s disappointment or his dissatisfaction with the quality of the work one thing is certain: in most cases he was content with his compositions and not without reason – his Songs Without Words inspired quite a number of composers to write similar piano compositions, and his Violin Concerto in E minor ranks as an outstanding work in the genre. This concerto is available for downloading on our site among other compositions which total number amounts to 1880, out of which 243 are free. All sheet music is in PDF format easy to print out and view. We hope you’ll derive a lot of pleasure while browsing the catalogue of compositions of the remarkable composer.
